Announced the kick-off of the DIGITAL SME awards, dedicated to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for their positive impact on Europe’s digitalisation and sustainable digital economy.
The awards will recognise and celebrate SMEs that have achieved remarkable positive impact through digitalisation in three key areas: Green, Digital Society and Digital Skills.
It celebrates exceptional projects, stories, and initiatives that promote digital skills in Europe. Some of the examples include: education and training on digital skills, digital and media literacy, and up-skilling and re-skilling of the workforce.
It recognizes digital SMEs that have developed or provide digital solutions with a positive climate impact, supporting the twin transition. Successful business-model examples include: Smart Energy Management Systems, Smart Mobility Solutions, Precision Farming Solutions.
It highlights the power of digital in fostering social well-being and inclusiveness, recognizing SMEs that have made a positive societal impact through their digital solutions. Examples of such impact include: gender equality promotion within the workforce, ethical data practices, local and/or regional development, community empowerment.
Winners will participate in the awards ceremony during the DIGITAL SME summit on 13 November in Brussels and will receive a one year membership to the European Digital Innovators Club.

About the DIGITAL SME summit
On 13 November 2023, the European DIGITAL SME Alliance will host the first edition of the DIGITAL SME summit, taking place at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels. The event will be an opportunity to connect European digital SMEs and representatives from EU and international institutions, industry associations, researchers, journalists and many more stakeholders.
The event will see the participation of several high-level speakers, including Kersti Kaljulaid, former President of Estonia (2016 – 2021); Tommaso Valletti, Former Chief Competition Economist at the European Commission and Professor of Economics at Imperial College Business School; Dr. Oliver Grün, President of the European DIGITAL SME Alliance and CEO and Founder of GRÜN Software Group; Kilian Gross, Head of Unit for AI Policy Coordination and Development at the European Commission (DG CNCT); and Francesca Bria, President of the Italian Innovation Fund.
